Shortlist for provincial housing and development awards includes strong representation from major cities.
Setting the stage for a night of anticipation come September, the Building Industry and Land Development Alberta Association (BILD Alberta) has announced the finalists for the 2025 BILD Alberta Awards.
“The BILD Alberta Awards highlight the incredible creativity, design and innovation our members bring to every project,” says Scott Fash, CEO of BILD Alberta. BILD Alberta is the unified voice for Alberta’s land development, home building and renovation industry.
The BILD Alberta Awards recognize excellence in 40 categories, spanning new home construction, renovation, community development, energy efficiency, innovation and safety leadership.
This year, finalists were selected by a panel of 100 industry professionals, from a record number of more than 430 submissions. The judges carefully whittled down the entries to 126 finalists, which were distributed between entrants mainly from Edmonton and Calgary, with Edmonton-based projects picking up 33 finalist nods and Calgary earning 74. Alberta companies garnered six finalist places, while projects in the smaller Alberta centres of Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Wainwright and Lethbridge, respectively took six, four, two and one finalist nods.
This year it could be anyone’s game. In the development sphere, Genesis Land showed well as a finalist contender, earning several nods for its Lewiston project in Calgary’s northwest, one for the community’s grand opening, one for its show home parade and one for Best New Community. Also earning nods in the Best New Community category are Cantiro’s Alces in Edmonton and Lamon Land’s Key Ranch in Calgary.
Best Growing Community finalist places went to Brookfield Residential (The Orchards in Edmonton), Alpine Park in Calgary also by Dream and Qualico Communities and Bordeaux Developments Harmony project.
The renovation categories were dominated by Calgary projects with Rusch Design Build, Crafted Edge Homes, Melanson Homes and Renovations and Reborn Renovations each taking three nods. Kay 2 Contracting earned two nods, while House Crush Design Studio took one.
Ultimate Renovations along with Vicky’s Homes in Edmonton were the big finalists in the renovation categories, each earning five nods, including the Renovator’s Choice category, with Ultimate Renovations taking one of the three nods for its Urban Garden Luxe project. Edmonton-based Vicky’s Homes earned the remaining two finalist positions for the Renovator’s Choice category for its Mid-Century Great Room project and its Office Above the Garage. It also picked up an additional nod in the Garden/Secondary Suite category.
In the single-family category, Red Deer’s Sorento Homes showed well, earning three nods, while Lethbridge’s Stranville Living Master Builder earned a nod for its Hemsdale project (Single Family 1,500 to 1,600 sq. ft.), Medicine Hat’s Wilde Homes took two spots for its Ridge (Single Family 1,700 to 1,800 sq. ft.) and its Millington (Single Family 3,000 to 4,000 sq. ft.) projects.
In the multi-family arena, a host of contenders are vying for the big win, including Jayman Built and StreetSide Developments, each earning four finalist positions, as well as Brookfield Residential with three. Taking the cake, however, is Logel Homes with five nominations in four categories.
“With Alberta experiencing another year of record housing starts, this year’s finalists demonstrate our industry’s unwavering commitment to delivering a wide range of housing options for all Albertans,” says Fash.
All of the finalists will be competing for the coveted Pinnacle Awards, honouring the industry’s most outstanding contributors and top-scorers in five categories: Small Volume Builder, Large Volume Builder, Multi-Family Builder, Renovator and Developer. In addition to being top-scorers, winners of the coveted Pinnacle Awards will also demonstrate leadership in the fields of design, safety, volunteerism and customer satisfaction.
Last year’s Pinnacle Award winners include Jayman Built, which won for both Large Volume Builder and Multi-Family Builder, Red Deer’s Colbray Homes, earned the titled of Small Volume Builder. Ultimate Renovations picked up the Renovator Pinnacle Award, while Brookfield Residential took the Developer Pinnacle Award.
