Great design, customer service a winning combination for Logel Homes

Logel Homes named Multi-Family Builder of the Year-Large Volume for second year in a row at BILD CR Awards.

Logel Homes was recently crowned Multi-Family Builder of the Year-Large Volume, in the 2021 Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Calgary Region Awards. It was a second consecutive win for the family-owned and operated company, led by Calgary real estate veteran Tim Logel.

“Being named Builder of the Year for the second year is something our team is incredibly proud of achieving. I would like to thank our trade, consulting, and developer partners for all their contributions. It’s always an honour to be recognized by your peers. I am very proud of the Logel Homes team for their dedication to home building; its because of their hard work that we have been recognized with this award,” says Brayden Logel, vice-president of Logel Homes.

In 2021, Logel Homes sold more than 370 multi-family units, outpacing the previous average of 230 units per year. It may be a large volume builder, but it wasn’t strictly its output that earned it a Grand Award in that class. The builder’s innate ability to make the relatively compact space of a multi-family home feel very livable stole the category and earned them another three awards.

Founder Tim Logel draws upon more than 40 years experience in the real estate business. He began his career in the late 1970s, earning his stripes as a realtor during some fairly tough years in the Calgary market. As a realtor, he also sold new construction product for Cardel Homes and was the city’s top real estate agent from 1988 to 1993. By 1996, he was the vice-president at Cardel and after working closely in the single-family home sector, decided to start a new company focused on multi-family homes. In 1999, he organized 24 townhomes in Canmore under the banner of Cardel Lifestyles. The strategy was to have well thought out designs, high quality and provide great customer service.

The brand grew into Calgary’s No. 1 builder of condos and townhomes, based on sales, building permits since 2006 and customer satisfaction results.

By 2017, with Tim’s sons, Brayden and Kevin, and brother Brad were working in the company, and Logel Homes launched its inaugural project, Auburn Rise. Subsequent developments in the nearby community of Seton and also in Sage Hill and Livingston in the northwest have caught the attention of multi-family buyers and BILD Award judging panels.

Team member Scott Farquhar was named BILD Calgary Region’s 2021 Multi-family Rookie of the Year in the Sales Achievement category. Two of the builder’s floor plans won Best Apartment Style at the BILD Awards. The Carr 2 in the $199,999 and Under category and The Atwood 2ES, $300,000 to $379,999 price range.

The Carr 2 is an affordable 543-square-foot, one-bedroom, one bathroom home with a large outdoor space, and The Atwood 2 ES is a two-bedroom, two-bath, 1,020-square-foot corner unit floor plan.

Versions of these floor plans are available in Logel’s Auburn Rise, Seton West and Sage Walk developments.

The most popular model, the 905-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom Jackson, has been a best-seller for more than 20 years. It was bypassed for an award this year but continues to be a winner with customers, as more than 1,500 home buyers are living in Jackson floor plans.

Logel’s attention to the needs of customers is equally tied into the needs of the community. In 2018, Logel Homes partnered with Cardel Homes and the Resolve Campaign and with the support of government partners provided a $5 million, four-storey building for vulnerable and homeless populations. The James House, named for Tim Logel’s father, was a deeply personal philanthropic project. The building is operated by agency provider McMan Calgary, connecting residents with financial and community supports and assisting them with finding appropriate accommodation.

Logel Homes also supports the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.

With six new show suites opening June 4 at Seton West and big plans for new projects in northwest Calgary, Logel believes 2022 will bode well for the next BILD Awards to be held in spring 2023.
