Every weekend, Andrew Kan would drive from his home in Edmonton to Jasper, Nordegg, Banff or Canmore just to experience life outdoors in the Rocky Mountains. In summer, he’d be out trail running, hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing, while in winter he was a blur of adrenalin on the downhill slopes.
When he realized the lengthy weekend commutes were robbing him of time in the fresh mountain air, he felt it was time to rearrange his life and move. A remote job would provide the flexibility he needed and the first job that came up would determine the location he’d move to. It wasn’t long until a firm in Calgary offered him a hybrid remote position, so that left him with one clear choice.

Kan chose the 630-sq.-ft., two-bedroom, one-bathroom Richler floor plan. The layout spoke to him, he says.
“Personally, as a single-income person, it was affordable. I needed something under $600,000 and I was fortunate to purchase one. My end goal is to live in my unit, but should anything happen with job security, it will be an investment as well once it’s built,” he says. “It’s a large purchase and a big decision. Owning in Canmore is a dream for a lot of people, and I definitely feel fortunate in that opportunity. I put my 10 per cent down and now, it’s about just waiting.”
When the site for Altitude came available, the community’s ownership group and Logel CEO and chairman Tim Logel agreed that it was the perfect location for the multi-family home builder’s award-winning product.
“I started working with the Three Sisters Mountain Village group in 1996 and in 1999, the company started the first multi-family development in Canmore, Peaks of Grassi,” says Logel. “This area is a good fit for Logel Homes, because of our previous track record of similar type multi-family sites that are developed adjacent to retail and grocery store amenities and pedestrian and bicycle pathway networks.”
Altitude follows Logel’s successful form and density formula that works in Calgary as evidenced by past and current projects such as Waterside Mahogany, Seton West, Sage Walk, Livingston Views and Silverton Street Towns. Each offers a broad range of floor plan sizes and price points. Some of the floorplates offered in Altitude are unique to Canmore, a community where multi-family units usually start at 1,000 square feet or larger. Smaller units in the first building of Altitude sold out quickly as a result.
At the same time, the Logel team took Altitude to new heights by Canmore-sizing some of the popular Calgary floor plans. They made larger balconies, vaulted the ceilings on top floor units, added more storage and created tandem parking stalls. The interiors of the future townhomes will be generally larger.
