Spectacle And Serenity Meet In Canmore

“Picturesque” doesn’t even come close in describing the beauty of Canmore. It’s resplendent natural beauty, scenic downtown, and lively culture come through even when it is part of an apocalyptic tale about the end of the world.

Canmore was one of the key locations in Alberta where they filmed the first season of “The Last of Us,” the mega-hit HBO series based on the popular video game about a deadly virus that killed most of humanity. The small town at the gateway to the Rockies just west of Calgary fulfilled its role as the one lone spot where society and a semblance of order continued while the rest of the world fell into madness.

It’s true, even in real life. The cast and crew of “The Last of Us” were most effusive in their praise for the town, its beauty and hospitality. But this is no secret to those who know it best, as Canmore is Calgary’s happy place. And with more new home opportunities opening, it can be a happily-ever-after place too.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH

Canmore has is one of the fastest growing small urban centres in all of Canada. Its population is pegged at 17,200 in 2024, representing a 0.63 percent increase year-over-year, and a stunning 12 per cent rise in the last five years. The town’s attractiveness is a major draw to new homebuyers and more new home opportunities are springing up and there are several ongoing developments in town, including the new Altitude condos by Logel Homes in Three Sisters Village.

“Canmore is a hidden gem amongst the world of mountain towns, especially when you compare it to heavyweights like Whistler, Jackson Hole, Revelstoke, or pick-your-name of Colorado or Swiss resort towns,” says Logel Homes Sales & Marketing Director, Reilly LePage. “Canmore has incredible real estate value on a global level with amazing accessibility from Calgary’s international airport. Lifestyle is the reason people move to Canmore, with world-class golfing, ski resorts, picturesque rivers, mountain biking, hiking, and a great local restaurant and brewery scene with all the charm you’d expect in a mountain town – All next to one of Canada’s greatest National Parks: Banff.”

MOUNTAIN RESORT LIVING

Relaxing mountain resort living is the promise at Logel Homes’ Altitude, which represents a return by the multi-award-winning developer to Canmore. Tim Logel, Logel Homes’ founder, built townhomes in Peaks of Grassi in 1999. Today Altitude brings top quality, affordable multi-family living options in the scenic town at the foot of the Rockies. Logel Homes itself is at the very top of Calgary’s multi-family market, having won BILD Calgary Region Large Volume Multi-Family Builder of the Year for the fifth consecutive time at this year’s gala awards night.

Altitude features 24 townhomes with double garage parking, 215 condos in four buildings, with 14 floorplans and heated underground parking. The 6.8- acre lot is surrounded on two sides by an environmental reserve and is adjacent to a municipal reserve and playground.

“Our location in Canmore at Three Sisters Mountain Village offers multi-modal bike and walking paths, direct access to a future amenity centre at the Gateway, where, in the future, residents can walk to amazing dining, shopping, and services among stunning 360-degree views of the Rocky Mountains,” LePage says. “The site is surrounded by forest on three sides and is one of the only areas with a view of the Cascade mountains. People are excited to see market-based affordability with Logel Homes signature quality, customer-service, and thousands of design choices.”

Logel Homes is doing its part to enrich the community, too, as they are building, landscaping and constructing a playground on a half acre plot that was part of their purchase, and gifting this to the Town of Canmore.

MOUNTAIN RESORT TOWN

The Town of Canmore is the perfect hub for adventure. A picture-postcard perfect community enveloped by the majesty of the Canadian Rockies. There are trendy boutiques, gourmet dining, eclectic art galleries, 30 + kilometres of pathways, and a diverse population of residents including accomplished mountaineers and Olympic athletes. Skiing in winter is of course a perennial favourite activity, but hiking, biking and golf in the warmer months are also popular pursuits.

Maybe take a selfie at the Canmore Engine Bridge just off Railway Avenue, where a crucial scene in “The Last of Us” was filmed. Canmore, in general, has just about all the most Instagram- worthy sceneries around. Of course, the lively and Iron Goat dynamic social scene in town has come back to its normal vibrant self from the pandemic years. Incredible views, and the friendliness of the people themselves only added to the heady tonic.

There is just so much to do in town. The Elevation Place recreational centre provides indoor recreational opportunities including wall climbing and swimming. People love to bike on the Legacy Trail to nearby Banff. Local craft breweries are a main attraction, so are local art galleries, and your choice of international-calibre restaurants.

“Many Logel Homes team members and customers love to golf at Stewart Creek and use the multi-modal pathway system that connects directly to our site,” LePage says. “Canmore has a great restaurant scene, from Crazy Weed, Summit Café, to Sheepdog Brewing or Fergus & Bix downtown. There’s plenty of great hiking and paddleboarding in the Summer from the popular Grassi Lakes to East End of Rundle for the adventurous. Residents can brave hiking Lady McDonald and get spectacular views of their homes being built!” For much more about Canmore go to explorecanmore.ca.
