Drum roll — it’s that time of year again — the 2022 Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Calgary Region Awards’ finalists have been announced.

“BILDCR is excited to announce the finalists. Our members submitted fantastic projects that truly demonstrate creativity and innovation,” says Brian Hahn, CEO of BILD Calgary Region.

The annual awards span 11 categories and celebrate the best in new homes, renovations, community development, design, innovation and residential sales and marketing. More than 570 entries were submitted and adjudicated by a panel of over 100 judges.

“The BILDCR Awards are a testament to what is possible, while also showcasing our members’ commitment to providing choice and affordable options in Calgary and the region,” says Hahn.

In total, 239 finalists made the cut and are vying for 53 awards. One noticeable trend this year is that many builders have also taken on new capacity in land development, earning finalist nods in both categories. Leading the pack is Jayman Built, which picked up 17 finalist nominations in almost every category from innovation (for its Path to Net Zero initiative), through to multi-family, single-family and marketing. Its development arm — Jayman Living (formerly Tamani Communities — also received two finalist acknowledgements for Show Home Parade of the Year and for its Cochrane community, Precedence in Riversong.

Logel Homes, last year’s Multi-Family Builder of the Year, Large Volume, also took multiple finalist nominations in 2022, earning 12 accolades in categories including Best Apartment Style, Best New Multi-Family Home Designs, sales team, and sales and information centre. Brad Remington Homes is a finalist in nine multi-family award categories, as well as a marketing category.

Homes by Avi and Morrison Homes were close on the heels of Jayman Built and Logel Homes’ finalist count, earning 11 and 10 nods, respectively, across multiple categories.

Finalists in the land development New Community of the Year category include Anthem Properties for Glacier Ridge, Genesis Land Development Corp. for Sage Hill Crest, Hopewell for Hotchkiss and Qualico Communities Calgary for Painted Sky, while Brookfield Residential (Rockland Park, Seton) Canada Lands Corp. (Currie), Hopewell (Mahogany) and University of Calgary Properties Group (University District) take top spots for Community of the Year, City of Calgary. Anthem Properties and Bordeaux Developments and Qualico Communities also received nods for Community of the Year Calgary Region for D’Arcy and Harmony respectively. They are joined by Douglas Developments for Waterford in Chestermere, Genesis Land Development Corp. for Bayview in Airdrie and Jayman Living for Precedence in Riversong.

In the renovation category, the race for leader of the pack is tight with last year’s Renovator of the Year, Ultimate Renovations tied with both Kay2 Contracting Ltd. and Van Manna Homes, each with five finalist nominations. Other contenders are close behind, with Crated Edge Homes and Treehouse Developments Ltd. taking four finalist nods, while Renova Homes and Renovations and Reborn Renovations coming in a close third with three finalist nominations.

Riverview Custom Homes, as the sole finalist in the category Best New Home —$2,401,000 and over, earns the winner title for its Apollo project.

The finalists are also contending for six prestigious BILDCR Grand Awards — Partner of the Year, Renovator of the Year, Multi-family Builder of the Year (Small Volume), Multi-family Builder of the Year (Large Volume), Single-family Builder of the Year (Small Volume) and Single-family Builder of the Year (Large Volume). The Grand Awards are determined by a tally of results as set by the BILDCR awards’ committee.

Winners will be announced at the much-anticipated awards’ gala event, hosted by BILDCR, on April 22 at the Telus Convention Centre.

“We look forward to celebrating the winners, finalists and also the incredible achievements of the building and development industry,” says Hahn.
