A grand kitchen is at the centre of the Atwood 2ES

Seton West, by Logel Homes, offers a variety of condo home styles.

People who move from a single-family home to a space more suited to their current needs often want to carry over their favourite features.

After all, less square footage overall doesn’t change one’s love for cooking.

Spaces reminiscent of those found in larger homes can be seen in the Atwood 2ES. This 1,054-square-foot condo by Logel Homes is reflected as a show suite at Seton West.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom Atwood 2ES is nominated for best apartment-style show home of the year at the BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) Calgary Region Awards.
One of its high notes is the kitchen. The grand, upscale central cooking space boasts an uncommonly large island situated beneath elegant pendant lighting. While the eating bar on many islands has seating for two or three people, this one supports four.

It is easy to imagine the homeowners spreading out ingredients with their grandchildren for a weekend afternoon baking project.

The island includes built-in shelving, supporting kitchen storage through an abundant supply of cabinet doors and drawers. Two of the cabinets have glass doors, creating a showcase for one’s favourite dishes and glassware.

Black frames around the glass bring elegance and extra attention to these cabinets.

In the show suite, the kitchen is demonstrated with stainless steel appliances, such as a wall oven and fridge with french doors.

Through an open-concept design, the cooking space connects to a spacious, bright dining area and great room, setting up a natural space for visiting with friends. The great room backs onto tall sliding glass doors that fill these rooms with sunshine.

These doors open to a 145-square-foot patio. On a sunny afternoon, this is a prime spot for iced tea and lemonade with friends.

Visual interest in the 12-foot 11-inch by 10-foot seven-inch great room is elevated by an elongated fireplace beneath a mantle. The space is staged with a well-sized couch, table and chair.

Both bedrooms are on the same side of the floor plan and separated by the two bathrooms. Measuring 10 feet 10 inches by 11 feet five inches, the larger bedroom continues the theme of natural light, boasting windows on two walls.

It also contains an ensuite and walk-in closet large enough to function as a dressing room. In the ensuite, there is a large shower with a glass door, and a vanity with two sinks.

Privacy is another element in the design. From its entrance, views beyond the immediate hallway are restricted. This is handy for times when receiving deliveries at the door.

This hallway leads to a laundry room with a front-load washer and dryer. It includes a surface on which to sort and fold clothes.

Seton West is located in the master-planned southeast Calgary community of Seton, which includes, among other amenities, a movie theatre, high school and the South Health Campus.
